Launched in 1972, Pioneer 10 became the first human-made object to traverse the asteroid belt and deliver close-up images of Jupiter, paving the way for future deep-space exploration.

Pioneer 10 carried the famous Pioneer Plaque, like a message in a bottle, to communicate the spacecraft's origins to any intelligent beings it may encounter.

This relic is part of a rare cache of tapes that famously vanished for decades, only to resurface in 2015 under extraordinary circumstances: tucked away in a private apartment, their legacy nearly lost to time. While most of the recovered collection succumbed to mold and decay, a small number of pristine reels miraculously survived.

We have consulted with many experts about this item, particularly a veteran in data recovery who specializes in digitizing vintage data formats. He was able to conclude that the tape includes 12 files, at least 6 of which are raw imagery data from the Pioneer IPP (Imaging PhotoPolarimeter). These may include images of other planets or moons, transmitted directly from the spacecraft back to Earth in binary.
