A substantial early-1980s treatment of time-series analysis by pioneering geophysicist and signal-processing researcher Enders A. Robinson. Published by Goose Pond Press in 1981, this is the first printing of Time Series Analysis and Applications.

Across more than 600 pages, Robinson develops the mathematics of stochastic processes, prediction and forecasting, autoregressive models, spectral analysis, filtering, deconvolution, wavelets, and multichannel systems. The book ranges unusually widely in its applications, from economic modeling and speech analysis to seismic signals and the detection of nuclear explosions.

Robinson occupies an important place in the history of digital signal processing. His work at MIT in the early 1950s helped move geophysical analysis from analog methods into digital computation, and he became particularly associated with the development of seismic deconvolution. MIT describes the Geophysical Analysis Group he led as an important early center in the development of digital geophysics, while the Society of Exploration Geophysicists credits Robinson as one of the scientists responsible for the field's analog-to-digital transition.

This copy has additional historical provenance from the Amoco Production Company Research Center Library. Rather than simply being an obsolete statistics textbook, it is an artifact of the period when advanced mathematical techniques, digital computing, and industrial geophysics were becoming tightly interconnected.
